Young pianists invited to compete in Marion Filice Youth Piano Competition

Gavilan College will host the event for fifth- through 12th-graders in March

Piano students ranging from fifth to 12th grades can register to compete in the Marion Filice Youth Piano Competition, while all other musicians can register to perform during the music festival, on Saturday, March 4 at the Gavilan College Theater in Gilroy.

The competition begins at 10 a.m., with a junior division providing five to 15 minutes per former and a senior division offering 10 to 15 minutes per performer. An award ceremony and the festival concert will take place at 3 p.m. at the theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

Contestants are expected to have prepared two contrasting pieces from the classical repertoire performed by memory (Baroque, classical, romantic, or contemporary).

The winner will be invited to perform at the Gavilan College Bach to Blues Concert.
