San Benito’s nonprofit news readers are active participants in supporting and sustaining their own local journalism. As executive director, I will remind you through our fall campaign of this unique newsroom that is yours and the fine reporting published this year by the BenitoLink team.
The BenitoLink newsroom is paid for by the residents of San Benito county along with local and regional businesses and grants. Several local residents who care deeply about making dependable information available to all residents and care more generally about the civic health of our community, offer large donations and ask BenitoLink readers to match it.
This year, Sallie Calhoun and Matt Cristiano, owners of Paicines Ranch, have once again generously put up matching funds. But to give us a boost for 2026, they have offered a larger match of $45,000. This couple helped BenitoLink in its formative years and has continued to make sure basic information is available by providing larger donations for residents to match.
Also, the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) is again including BenitoLink in their national NewsMatch. INN is committing $23,500 which will magically multiply your new monthly donation or your one-time gift! Starting now, Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, readers can double this $68,500 combined offer and BenitoLink will earn up to $137,000 for the coming year.
Over the last 14 years, BenitoLink has become a more and more essential information hub for San Benito residents. What readers do as a community every year, making donations to ensure local news, is quite amazing.
