BenitoLink is community-based news at its best

Pledge of Champions is off to a good start with community members getting behind their local news source. And that community spirit is what makes it all work.

The Pledge of Champions has begun as we totaled-up last week with already $5,465 in donations. Thank you San Benito County!

As a nonprofit, BenitoLink provides a community service- NEWS. We publish vital information daily and at the same time we are producing investigative reports that can take weeks of research and careful preparation. Having a team of local government and beat reporters, feature writers and our new addition, Senior Editor Jack Foley means we have a fantastic team, but it doesn't take long for costs to add up.

Despite limited resources, our goal remains the same; to provide honest, high-quality reporting that is designed to custom-fit the community it serves. Support from all of you is what will help us achieve those goals.

“Continue your efforts of ‘keeping them honest,'" wrote a donor this week. “We thank you for the valuable service to our Community. Keep on Reporting!!”

Comments like these let us know that our hard work is paying off and we are on the right track.

Whether you are responding via comments to BenitoLink articles or contacting us directly, it is exciting to hear from you. As local online news consumers, our readers are becoming more engaged in the community they live and vote in. And that engagement makes a difference. Take a look at what happened when the community reacted to a proposed pay raise just last week in our report SBC Supervisor’s pay raise decision.

Today there is no shortage of important topics the BenitoLink team is ready to dig in to. You can help us continue to serve San Benito by going to “Donate” and making a one-time donation or becoming a sustaining member.

In fact, we want to give a shout-out to Harriet Brin for inaugurating BenitoLink’s new "sustaining member" option recently added to our Donate page. Check it out. Sustaining memberships can fit almost any budget and they make a big difference to us and our operation. Thank you, Harriet for breaking it in!

Nonprofit news? Yes, think of San Benito's own version of PBS with a dash of 60 minutes! Whether you donate once or pay monthly, you will be a BenitoLink member and become part of this rewarding project.

You have until Dec. 31 to take part in Pledge of Champions. Every dollar you donate will be matched up to $38,000 by NewsMatch and the Community Foundation for San Benito County. Join in and together we will continue to grow a truly local news source we are all proud to be part of.
