2015 San Benito County Olive Festival

“Chicken-to-Go” is an opportunity to help give the 2017 Olive Festival a boost and show your support for a fun event that is a great way to celebrate the fresh food products of San Benito County. This “mini-event” allows supporters to swing by Brigantino Irrigation and pick up a fully-prepared chicken dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The San Benito Olive Festival (SBOF) is serving up citrus herb-rubbed roasted chicken dinner to go for $20, or buy five and get one free. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SBOF is presenting this drive through/pick-up fundraiser to raise money for its 2017 festival, already in the planning stages. This gourmet celebration, which this year included smaller events with an expected return to the main event next year, showcases local agriculture and culinary delights to foodies and families locally, as well as those visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area, the Central Coast, and other areas far and wide.

Modeled after the Gilroy Garlic Festival, the Olive Festival donates its net proceeds to local community organizations that support well-being in the area.

This Spring, the Olive Festival announced it would not have a festival in 2016 and would instead use the time for re-organizing and planning in order to build a stronger, more successful event for the future. In an article posted by the Festival Board, it said, “We’ll be utilizing the time to strategize, and to make clear, mindful decisions – ones that will insure continued festival success on all levels. We also plan to expand the Board, and will be looking to add a significant ‘succession infrastructure’ of committee chairpeople – to then become Board members. We believe this decision to postpone the Olive Fest for 2016 is a wise one. It will fortify the Olive Festival event for the long-term, and enable the organization to better fulfill its mission as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.”

Attendance for exhibitors and guests at the festival has been growing each year and has become a popular venue for locals and visitors from the surrounding areas.

The roasted chicken dinner includes a half-roasted chicken, sun-dried tomato pesto olive tortellini pasta salad, a chili bowl and garlic bread. Tickets are available at Postal Graphics, 1760 Airline Hwy, in Hollister and San Benito Bene, 615-B San Benito St. in Hollister.
