The Hollister Downtown Association will manage the Hollister Motorcycle Rally for the next three years, after the city council on Tuesday voted 4-0 to approve the deal for a three-day event from July 3-5 this year and the first weekend of the month in each of the next two years. Mayor Ignacio Velazquez, who owns a business in downtown Hollister, recused himself from the discussion and vote.
The agreement, which was approved within just a few minutes of being introduced, estimates that the city will receive $180,000 in revenues — defined as base costs for putting on the rally. The HDA will pay the city $50,000 on May 1, another $50,000 June 1 and the final payment of $80,000 on July 1. "The bulk of the costs are from public safety and a small amount to cover public works staff for the set-up of the event area. The HDA is responsible for managing the operation of the rally.
