Gavilan school board gets Measure X update

Plans for bond spending and timeline given during June meeting.

At the June 11 Gavilan College Board of Trustees meeting, Ann and Matt Kennedy of the AKG: A Kennedy Group presented an update on Measure X. The pair has given updates at previous board meetings.

Out of the total $248 million school bond measure approved by voters in 2018, $52 million is allocated to Fairview Corners, the planned San Benito County campus site. Interviews with architects for the project will begin on June 14.

The project’s environmental impact report will be made public July 6. All mitigation is planned to be complete by January 2024. Requests for proposals for environmental consultants are underway for both the San Benito County and Gilroy campuses.

Five engineering firms have applied to provide services and are being reviewed by the school district. Fairview Corners’ occupancy date is set for April 20, 2024.

A detailed schedule of the project is available on the Measure X website.

The first meeting of the Measure X citizens’ oversight committee is expected to take place in Hollister in June, though no date has been set yet.
