Local athlete-turned-international competitor Colton Haaker won the Las Vegas round of EnduroCross last night against 2014 defending champion, Cody Webb. Haaker, a San Benito High School graduate, grew up in Tres Pinos and is 25 years old. His consistent challenger, Cody Webb, is from Aromas. Haaker takes the leader’s jersey in the third of an eight-round series. The two riders have been pitted against each other for the last couple of years on a national scale.

Haaker spent his childhood on two wheels at Hollister Hills SVRA (State Vehicular Recreation Area), Clear Creek Management Area and other riding areas throughout California with his father, John Haaker.  Now a professional racer, Haaker is a fierce competitor and disciplined athlete who has fought his way to the top of the EnduroCross circuit.  EnduroCross races bring the difficulty of off-road motorcyle riding to the masses. The races are usually held in stadiums with boulders, logs and gnarly obstacles to navigate. Haaker competed in motocross and trials competitions before settling into EnduroCross, a hybrid of both sports.  A special feature about Haaker’s race can be viewed on RacerX.com.

According to Cycle News.com, “It started off with Haaker nabbing the holeshot and his teammate Mike Brown settling into second, with the number-one plate holder, Webb, holding down third on the FMF/RPM Team Maxxis KTM. It was the race everyone was waiting for, with some of the top riders of the series starting up front.”

Racer Mike Brown went down going through the log pit, moving Webb up into second place.  The stage was set for a classic Haaker-Webb duel. Despite being challenged by Webb a few times, Haaker held his lead and even got a little distance on him. The two riders were tested as they wove through the lapped traffic and by the last lap, they were in their own race against each other.

The race airs on CBS Sports May 13 at 7 p.m.. To find your channel, click here: http:\\www.cbssportsnetwork.com\channel-finder
