HHH, San Benito Medical Associates, CareMore Offer County’s First Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advanatge plans offer extra or tailored benefits for customers

It was recently announced that San Benito County residents will now have access to a Medicare Advantage Plan thanks to the collaborative efforts of Hazel Hawkins Hospital, San Benito Medical Associates (SBMA) and CareMore Health Plan.

A Medicare Advantage Plan is a health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide customers with Part A and Part B benefits. In addition to standard Medicare coverage, these types of plans typically offer extra or tailored benefits within their networks at group rates; these can include, plan depending, transportation, vision and dental coverage, and specialized programs such as nutrition support and/or exercise programs and other options.

Some Medicare Advantage plans cost nothing more per month than original Medicare, while others come with a higher monthly premium. According to Modern Healthcare, approximately 18 million senior and disabled Americans are enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plans as of September 2015.

CareMore, a subsidiary of Anthem, serves more than 80,000 Medicare members throughout Southern California, Northern California, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., and Richmond, Va., under federally-approved Medicare Advantage contracts.

There are several plans available, and like all healthcare options whether or not a Medicare Advantage Plan is right for individuals and which plan would be best, depends greatly on their personal needs, preferences and circumstances.
