A public meeting on the California high-speed rail project is scheduled to take place in Gilroy on Aug. 22. The previous meeting date of Aug. 8 was postponed earlier this month.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority is hosting the open house in order to give the public, landowners, municipalities and community leaders an opportunity to talk to staff and learn more about plans for the proposed train route from San Francisco through Gilroy, and through San Benito County over Pacheco Pass to Merced. The meetings are required by the California Environmental Quality Act.

Plans call for a blended configuration between San Jose and Gilroy, using the existing Union Pacific Railroad corridor before continuing on with new tracks through San Benito County over the Pacheco Pass along some 14 miles of tunnels and bridges.

The public meeting will take place on Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the IFDES Lodge-Portuguese Hall at 250 Old Gilroy Street, Gilroy, CA 95020. Presentations begin at 6 p.m. Free parking available. Other meetings are scheduled to take place in Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Jose, Redwood City and Los Banos.
