Local chef named champ of Garlic Showdown

Michael Fisher wins competition against three others in Iron Chef-style battle

Owner and Executive Chef Michael Fisher from Fisher's Delicatessen & Catering in Hollister won the annual Garlic Showdown at the 2016 Gilroy Garlic Festival on Sunday, July 31.

In the Iron Chef-style Garlic Showdown, top professional chefs competed against each other in a timed challenge to create two dishes using secret ingredients that are revealed during the contest. This year’s secret ingredients were Silva sausage, Cracker Jacks, and orange flesh melon. The event was hosted by three-time Showdown Champion Chef Jason Gronlund.

Fisher, whose downtown Hollister restaurant is located at 650 San Benito St.,was awarded a $3,000 prize.
