Richard J. “Rick” Maddux, who operated Maddux Jewelers in downtown Hollister for a number of years, passed away at his Hollister home at the age of 69. He was born in Hollister and lived here all of his life.

He married his wife, Linda, in 1982 in Hollister. Mr. Maddux attended San Benito High School, the Gemological Institute of America and Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts. According to his online obituary, he enjoyed cooking, skiing, roller skating, classic films and reading. He was involved in the Hollister Elks, Hollister Downtown Association, Independent Jewelers Organization and The Gang Task Force. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Hollister, his children, James and Shandell Maddux of Seattle, Wash., Jeremy Maddux and Mylene Resurreccion of Burbank, Brian Marsmaker of Hollister and Brandon Marsmaker and Carline of Bullhead City, Ariz. and his grandchildren, Autumn, Ashley, Dillon, Trevor, Brigham, Sean, Josie, Emily and Stacie.

Mr. Maddux was preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Alice Maddux, and his brother, John Maddux. A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Rick Shelton will officiate.
