Five new murals were unveiled in downtown Hollister during the San Benito County Arts Council’s Vision Art Fest tour on Sept. 18.

Major donors for the project included the California Arts Council, Shawn Herrera, Corbin, and Edward Jones, and sponsors included Fernando Gonzalez, Chang So, the San Benito County Office of Education, Hollister Paint Co., A Tool Shed, Paicines Ranch, and other local downtown businesses.

San Jose resident Jessica Kwang said she was invited to attend the tour by a colleague, Alejandra Ramirez, with the Arts Council for Monterey County. Kwang is with the Arts Council for Santa Clara County, an organization called Silicon Valley Creates.

“We wanted to see some murals,” Kwang said. “I’ve seen has just been so vibrant and so culturally resonant. I especially really love the colors of the Philippines.”

Kwang said she has been on a walking tour in downtown San Jose before, but she never really spent much time in Hollister.

Ramirez said she wanted to come and support the project, and see how the building blocks worked out.

“I think the walk was super accessible and easy to do,” Ramirez said.
