Pledge Graphic - $22K.jpg

You might expect the weeks around Thanksgiving to be a tough time for news website fundraising. But thanks to our readers, the Pledge of Champions fund drive donation amount has climbed to $22,060! Every dollar will be doubled, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation for San Benito County and a generous individual donor. BenitoLink Champions pushed on and made progress toward the $30,000 goal, despite this busy time of year.

“We love BenitoLink!” one donor wrote. Comments like that make us feel like we are getting somewhere.

Another donor said, “We go online every morning to find out what is going on. BenitoLink is great.” Notes of encouragement and all manner of donations have come in. All sizes from all kinds of households, just what we want to see. Our readers gave thanks and managed to celebrate the holiday at the same time.

Thank you to the growing list of BenitoLink Champions!

With the election just behind us, news has been in the news, from discussions on national media coverage of the presidential election to Google and Facebook being accused of promoting fake news stories — no wonder people don’t know the source of what they are reading or what to believe. Hyperlocal websites like BenitoLink have seen a surge of support, viewed as a demonstration of public confidence in local news providers and deeper reporting efforts.

BenitoLink doesn’t borrow stories from who-knows-where or tell you about how Kim Kardashian cut herself shaving this morning. You can get that somewhere else.

Benitolink is your local news source and we pay our reporters to describe local news accurately what happened and cover events fairly.

We encourage curiosity. If a reporter were to head out in the field on a story convinced she/he has all the answers, what will they learn? Nothing. To enjoy journalism and do it well, it helps to arrive for an interview or meeting full of curiosity.

BenitoLink welcomes stories from members of our community. We learn and get fresh ideas from our contributors every day. A new perspective, a personal moment shared, and yes, a few unhappy campers — we appreciate them all.

As the year comes to a close, consider the tax advantage of a BenitoLink gift. Does the company you work for kick-in when you donate to the non-profit of your choice?

Your donation ensures that we can continue producing local news stories about your county. Support BenitoLink , your local online news and help us keep the information flowing.

Thank you Champions, for another great week!
