Pledge of Champions goal is within reach

BenitoLink's Pledge of Champions drive passes the $25,000 mark with year-end deadline in sight

BenitoLink, San Benito County’s local online news source, has reached $25,050 toward its Pledge of Champions fundraising goal of $30,000. We are closing in on our target as we approach a Dec. 31 deadline! Every dollar earned will be DOUBLED, due to matching funds from a Community Foundation for San Benito County grant and a generous private donor.

BenitoLink is unique because it invites community members to register for a free account on the website and write articles or opinion pieces themselves. As reporters, we can’t live in every neighborhood or join every club or organization. Hearing from you can tell us what concerns you have, give us the imaginative solution you’ve just come up with or share a winning play on the youth sports field.

We welcome all voices from our community, whether they be Latino, Portuguese, Japanese, veteran, young or old, liberal or conservative. We expect civil language and we review articles and commentaries before they are published to be sure they meet our Terms of Use. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States protects everyone's right to express their differing perspectives and opinions. That’s how we learn from one another and discover new ideas. BenitoLink promotes this basic right.

As a community engagement hub, BenitoLink is a place where local conversations can happen and regional issues can be explored. Local reporting and forums help our readers get to know those in power and evaluate their performance and accountability. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), BenitoLink is committed to providing a venue for freedom of expression and a platform for the questions that are a necessary part of open government.

Many thanks to the individuals who have already taken part in the Pledge (listed below) and BenitoLink would like to recognize all the businesses and nonprofits that took part in the Pledge this year: Heritage Bank of Commerce, Hollister Downtown Association, Morris Grassfed Beef, Safehouse Web, Teknova and Tiffany Motors.

Thanks also go out to our new sponsors who have signed up this month, demonstrating their support for an informed community:

  • Benedict Carota, M.D.
  • Marilyn Ferreira, Intero Real Estate
  • San Benito County Farm Bureau

Because of this donor and sponsor support, our readers can depend on BenitoLink reporters to regularly attend government meetings such as the San Benito County Board of Supervisors, San Juan Bautista and Hollister City Councils and other important community meetings such as school boards. It is our intent to provide consistent, honest reporting about what occurred, so our readers are aware of critical decisions and take part in the county's future.
