San Benito County is surveying its residents to help determine how prepared the community is to face emergencies such as wildfires, flooding, earthquakes and extreme heat.
The responses will help update the county’s Safety Element, a key planning document that outlines strategies to reduce the impact of natural and human-made hazards. When completed, it will be embedded in the county’s General Plan.
The survey, which is available online and will be available through Aug. 31, is intended for residents who live, work or own property in the county’s unincorporated areas.
The goal, according to county staff, is to “strengthen safety and resilience” in these parts of the county.
The 10-minute survey asks residents what types of disasters they’ve experienced, which ones concern them the most, whether they have evacuation plans, and how they would like to be informed, among other topics.
